Goodwood

Team Effectiveness

About Goodwood:

Goodwood is a unique sporting Estate set in 12,000 acres of beautiful West Sussex countryside. Owned by the Dukes of Richmond since 1697, it is has become famous for its thrilling motorsport events and spectacular horse-racing.

Whilst these two sports are a fundamental part of the Estate’s DNA, there is more to Goodwood than horses and cars: it includes an organic farm, four restaurants, two 18-hole golf courses, a sculpture park, a private members club, an aerodrome, a health club, a four-star hotel and a 10-bedroom luxury retreat.

Throughout its 300-year history, Goodwood has been a place where forward-thinking is celebrated and world-class entertainment comes naturally. It is a place that anyone can enjoy 365 days of the year. It really is British Estate like no other. http://www.goodwood.com

The Marketing Challenge

A key challenge for Goodwood’s marketing team was how to effectively deliver across a diverse range of businesses whilst ensuring the balance between maintaining tradition and continuing to generate innovation.  In 2017 Goodwood’s Marketing Director, Olaf Gueldner, approached Paolo Moscuzza from OE Cam with the goal to improve the senior marketing team’s effectiveness across the Estate.  In particular, Olaf wanted to ensure the whole of the marketing team worked as one team across the diverse range of sports and leisure activities.  This meant understanding the different styles and individual preferences of the team, priorities and pressures and how best to deliver collectively.

The OE Cam Approach

Paolo Moscuzza worked with the senior marketing team to understand the business challenges and how the different personalities could leverage their strengths to collectively address working across the estate in an even more customer-centric way.  Paolo and Olaf co-designed creative workshops that enabled the team to better understand different types of teamwork, learn how to play to each other’s strengths and achieve marginal gains in the way they worked, both individually and collectively.  In addition, Paolo provided guidance on their individual leadership styles to maximise their impact on the business.

Paolo has been great in creating an even stronger team spirit. From the customised design of the workshop through to the very thoughtful post event observations. Throughout the day, Paolo was a very skilled moderator who generated just the right level of debate and stopped us when it could have proven detrimental. Everyone has commented on how much we enjoyed the day and learned for ourselves and as a team.

One of the great things about working with Goodwood is getting the opportunity to experience their fantastic range of hospitality venues.  As a Business Psychologist, I have facilitated hundreds of offsite events in the UK and internationally and the venue plays an important part in enabling leaders to think differently.  Goodwood is a unique setting and the motor-racing circuit is particularly memorable”.  (Paolo Moscuzza)

Why OE Cam?

Clients tell us they choose to work with OE Cam for a number of reasons. Paolo Moscuzza explains: “Firstly, we understand the complexity of organisations that have both a fascinating history, as well as great innovation.  Preserving a rich legacy whilst also building exciting new products and services for the future was really important for Goodwood.  Secondly, our expertise successfully combines both ‘organisational’ and ‘people’ insights, for a more holistic, original perspective.  And thirdly, I think clients value the fresh energy we bring to leadership programmes; we not only deliver business results, but our workshops are highly engaging learning experiences”.

“What really impressed me about OE Cam is their flexible approach.  They created the programme from scratch to meet our specific business needs, rather than following any fixed formula.  And the way in which Paolo delivered the workshops was not only professional but more importantly very personal
