The Big Shuffle - Time to Revitalise Your EVP?
Welcome to this edition of The OE.
There’s a Big Shuffle happening in the marketplace… According to global research:
“41 percent of the global workforce is likely to consider leaving their current employer within the next year, with 46 percent planning to make a major pivot or career transition”. (1)
Prolonged periods of remote work have led to many people feeling less connected to their employer and so for some, the idea of a fresh start is far more exciting than the prospect of striving to rebuild relationships and grapple with all the new working arrangements.
So not only are leaders trying to navigate what Hybrid means for their organisation, but they are also faced with the challenge of potentially high numbers of staff leaving or feeling disengaged over the next six months. A passive ‘let’s wait and see’ approach is not going to work. We believe that now is a good time to rethink the Employee Value Proposition and those who understand the psychology that underpins why people work and stay motivated in their role will have the competitive edge.
In this edition of The OE we explore the role of the EVP in attraction, engagement and retention. We predict the attributes you may need to recruit (or develop?) and explain how understanding the psychological contract can help you build more powerful retention strategies. The 9-5 in the office is officially a thing of the past, so let’s get creative and rethink job designs around new notions of time and place.
As always, we welcome your feedback so do let us know what you think!

EVP – Time to Get Your Story Straight
by MARIAM MIRZA
The Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is a living, breathing statement that needs to be nurtured if it is to successfully drive attraction, engagement and retention. More often these days it’s a short film; a story that inspires you to join the company and makes employees feel proud to be part of something meaningful. However, many people’s relationship with work changed over the course of the pandemic, so there’s a risk that your EVP may no longer be fit-for-purpose. In this article Mariam Mirza goes back to basics to remind us of its core components and how to revitalise the employer brand story.

Find the Right Moves:Two Paths to the Same Goal
by PAOLO MOSCUZZA & FELICITY WOLFENDEN
As we move from Pandemic to Hybrid we’re at a point in time where many organisations are re-evaluating the employee skills and behaviours they need for the future. With such relentless, rapid change and ongoing uncertainty, OE Cam predicts a growing demand for leaders and managers with certain attributes rather than just competencies. In this article, Felicity Wolfenden and Paolo Moscuzza reveal what kind of attributes will be important and ask the question – do you recruit externally or develop existing talent?

Rethink Retention:Will Your Best Talent Leave This Year?
by JULIE BROPHY
With the imminent big shuffle in the job market, a ‘wait & see’ approach risks organisations losing their best staff and missing out on attracting the strongest talent. Julie Brophy argues that given the last 18 months of profound change, employers need to revisit and perhaps renegotiate the psychological contract. Through understanding the less tangible employee expectations, leaders and managers can build more compelling retention strategies to mitigate the talent exodus.
